Marathon Reef / Wreck / Troll Fishing
Our 6-8 hour fishing charters in Marathon, Florida offer a full-day adventure combining bottom fishing, trolling, and drift fishing for a variety of exciting species. We start by bottom fishing for some exciting action and loading the cooler before heading deeper offshore. Once trolling offshore in deeper waters (200+ feet), we target fast, hard-hitting pelagics like Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna. Back near the reefs and wrecks, drift fishing with live bait allows anglers to hook Amberjack, Mutton Snapper, King Mackerel, Grouper, and even Sailfish, providing nonstop action throughout the trip. This combo trip is perfect for anglers seeking variety, big fights, and a chance to experience the best of both nearshore and offshore fishing in the Florida Keys.

Target Species
Reminder: Grouper season is May 1 – December 31st.
Spring (March–May)
Spring brings excellent nearshore fishing as water temperatures warm and reef species become more active. Anglers can expect strong action for Mutton Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, and Grouper in season, which are all feeding aggressively on the reefs and wrecks. Mangrove Snapper and Barracuda are also common, providing steady action for anglers of all experience levels.
Summer (June–August)
Summer offers some of the best nearshore reef and wreck fishing of the year. Yellowtail Snapper and Mutton Snapper remain abundant, while Red and Black Grouper put up a powerful fight. Mangrove Snapper and Amberjack are also frequently caught around the structure, giving anglers plenty of exciting action in the calm summer waters. Mahi Mahi and tuna fishing are also at their peak, and its common to catch them while trolling or drift fishing.
Fall (September–November)
Fall keeps the reefs and wrecks buzzing with activity as water temperatures slowly cool. Mutton Snapper and Yellowtail Snapper are still abundant, and Grouper continue to provide strong, challenging bites. Mangrove Snapper and Barracuda remain popular targets, making this a great time for anglers seeking steady, varied action close to shore.
Winter (December–February)
Winter fishing nearshore reefs and wrecks remains excellent, with cooler waters turning on aggressive Yellowtail Snapper, Mutton Snapper, and Grouper. Mangrove Snapper are also plentiful, while Mackerel and occasional Amberjack provide added excitement. With calm conditions and fewer crowds, winter is ideal for a productive day on the nearshore structure. Wahoo can be caught this time of year around the full moons, while sailfish are also available depending on the weather conditions.
Where We Fish
Our 6-8 hour fishing trips in Marathon, Florida take you just 4–6 miles from the marina, usually a quick 15–20 minute ride. Once on the spots, we target natural bottom, reefs, and wrecks in 40 to 100 feet of water, where fish are abundant and the action is steady. These productive spots are home to a variety of snapper, grouper, and other reef species, offering anglers of all skill levels plenty of opportunities to catch a meal or just enjoy the thrill of the fight. To troll or fish live baits we fish just a little bit further offshore, but not by much. The short ride and nearby structure make these trips perfect for a half-day adventure without spending hours traveling offshore.
